Just days before Super Tuesday, Bernie Sanders has drawn a record breaking crowd of tens of thousands of supporters at a campaign rally in Los Angeles, California.
The campaign said more than 35,000 people had RSVP’d to attend Sunday night’s rally at the Los Angeles Convention Centre.
Before Sanders himself took the stage, speakers including Representative Chuy Garcia, comedian Sarah Silverman, actor Dick Van Dyke and Director of National Nurses United Bonnie Castillo fired up the highly energetic crowd.
“In case you haven’t noticed, there are a few people here tonight. Thanks all for coming out,” Sanders said as he took the stage to rapturous applause.
“I know you want to listen to some music in a few minutes, so I have decided to limit my remarks to three hours,” the Vermont Senator joked.
“All across this country, the American people are saying, no, we will not have a pathological liar in the White House for four more years. We will not have a corrupt administration for four more years. We will not have a president who has apparently not read the constitution of the United States.”
“In November, Donald Trump is going to discover that the United States is a democracy because we’re gonna throw him out of office.”
American hip hop icons Public Enemy also performed at the rally. The group’s founder Chuck D said he supports Sanders because he is on the side of working people.
Sanders’ campaign has an unmatched on the ground campaign in the Golden State, with more than 100 paid staffers and 23 field offices open across the state. The campaign says it has knocked on more than one million doors and made more than five million phone calls to California voters.
Polls have consistently shown Sanders with a double digit lead in California, one of the fourteen states that votes on Super Tuesday on March 3.
