US Senator Bernie Sanders will launch his second bid for presidency with rallies in New York and Illinois next weekend.

The independent senator from Vermont, vying for the nomination of the Democratic Party, will hold a rally at Brooklyn College from 11:30am on Saturday 2 March.

On Sunday, he will hold an evening rally from 7pm at Navy Pier in Chicago.

Sanders has a history in both cities, having attended Brooklyn College before graduating from the University of Chicago, where he helped lead student protests against segregated campus housing, segregated schools and police brutality.

Both events are free and open to the public. No tickets are required.

Sanders’ campaign says he will travel to Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Nevada, and California, before returning to his hometown of Burlington to officially launch his campaign.
