Why New Yorkers need to register as Democrats now

New Yorkers only have until October 9 to register as a Democrat in order to vote for Bernie Sanders in the primary.

The New York primary might be in April of next year, but Bernie’s supporters need to start registering as Democrats if they are to vote for him in the primary election.

This means that volunteers need to mobilize quickly to start engaging supporters in New York, and ensure they register before the looming October 9 deadline.

Yes, that means you New Yorkers won’t even get a chance to see a Democratic presidential candidates’ debate to weigh up their options before registering. It’s no wonder the Sanders and O’Malley campaigns are pushing the DNC hard for more debates, before the deadline.

New Yorkers can register as Democrats with the Board of Elections.

Sanders faces fierce competition in New York, which is home to the Clinton campaign. Sanders was born in Brooklyn in 1941, but was living in Vermont by 1968.

The New York primary is set to be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016.

  1. Can you please post the source of this information? The only thing I can find is the 2015 state, local, and general election primary. http://www.elections.ny.gov/VotingDeadlines.html. It says nothing about the 2016 Presidential Primary. Plus in NYS, unregistered voters have 25 days prior to the election to register. http://www.rockthevote.com/get-informed/elections/voter-registration-deadlines.html?referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F So that SHOULD count for the Presidential Primaries as well, correct? From what I’ve heard, this deadline to vote in the primaries is ONLY if you are switching from Republican and Independent to Democrat. Like I said, PLEASE post your sources because this is quite confusing and I would like the proper information posted. You have no idea how discouraged people get if they think a deadline, that wasn’t ACTUALLY a deadline has passed. E.g. “I saw something that said I was supposed to be registered by October, so I guess I can’t vote” When really they CAN still register. I would hate for something like this to happen.

    1. And think about it. Who isn’t registered to vote already? Young people! And they will make a big difference in this primary for Bernie.

  2. I am registered Independent, when I looked up info re: changing to Dem. in ny ,I read that the change would not take effect until FOLLOWING primary . Is this correct?

    1. I believe this is just for the 2015 general primaries. NOT the 2016 presidential primaries. The website states “The voter registration form should be used to change your party enrollment from one party to another or to enroll for the first time in a party. A change of enrollment received no later than 25 days before the general election shall be deposited in a sealed enrollment box and opened the first Tuesday following that general election and entered in the voter’s registration record.”
This means that you will be registered as a Democrat after the 2015 November primaries, but before the 2016 presidential primaries.

  3. FREE YOUR MINDS!!! Isn’t this what we always complain about after we vote a main stream “Front Runner” Democrat in? How you can’t expect them to be scrupulous. We overlook Hillary’s evasive non answers until she is president? Women are so enamored by the possibility of a woman president they overlook that she can’t really be trusted. “That is what the campaign season is for Hillary, to allow
the citizenry to vet you as a candidate for president”. Aren’t we tired of
settling for the elite’s lap dogs, for a few crumbs? Wouldn’t it be great if we could change things without bloodshed, a peaceful revolution? When are we going to vote for the statesman we complain we never get? When there is one right in front of us? Stop making excuses for not having a real progressive statesman in office. Stop over thinking the elections and vote your convictions as a progressive and vote for the most progressive candidate we have. Bernie Sanders For President 2016.
Do you want a progressive in the White House? There is only one way that can happen. Civics 101: The Primary Vote. The primary vote is the most important and the most neglected in our electoral system. The primaries are where We The People choose who our “Front
Runner” is. Hillary Clinton is no more a “Front Runner” than Bernie Sanders. This is just media propaganda funneling our vote for a conservative, corporate, Wall Street friendly Dem. We all know where Hillary stands on this. Bernie Sanders is a true statesman working with the Democratic Party as a democrat candidate. He has been approved by the DNC to run on their ticket. If a progressive wins the primary by a wide margin over any other candidate then the DNC will have no choice but, to nominate them. The plain and simple truth of
the matter, THIS is how our system works, all propaganda aside. The country is coming out in droves to see Bernie in overflowing auditoriums. Even in conservative states he’s climbing and beating Hillary in the polls. If Bernie won the primaries I believe he would win the presidency, the country is ripe for a progressive, we are starving for it. Stop! Buying into and spreading the propaganda “We can’t have a progressive for president”. Because, that is all it is, propaganda. Not Reality. So, I say let’s “HACK THE SYSTEM BY USING IT!!! GET OUT THE PROGRESSIVE PRIMARY VOTE!!!!”
THIS is how we SHOULD be talking the elections. Let’s not fall victim to the Billion Dollar, Propaganda media telling us who to vote for. That is relinquishing our citizen and civic responsibility. Our system, the primaries, the protocol of voting, IS REALITY. Learn and stick to the plan, the basics, all propaganda aside.
Please, share, share, share and repost this everywhere. If you like my message and you think it is important for others to see, be my guest and pass it on. I’m trying to change the way we look and think about our electoral system. But, I’m ill and lack the technical skills to be more effective so, I’m counting on all of you to help. We need a massive get out the progressive primary vote like we haven’t seen in generations. http://voteforbernie.org/
