Bernie Sanders has surged to first place in a new national Reuters/Ipsos poll released Thursday evening.
Sanders was the first choice of 20 percent of respondents, representing a 2 percent jump since last week’s poll.
Support for former vice president Joe Biden remained unchanged at 19 percent. Massachussetts Senator Elizabeth Warren also remained steady in third place at 12 percent.
Former South Bend mayor Pete Buttigieg and businessman Michael Bloombeg each recorded support in the single digits, with nine percent and six percent respectively.
Sanders has increased his level of support in each of the last three Reuters/Ipsos polls since mid-December, while support for Biden, Warren and Buttigieg has remained flat over this period.
The survey of 681 Democrats and independents, including 552 who were registered to vote, was conducted between January 15 and 17.
