More than one million donations made January the best fundraising month yet for Bernie Sanders, with a record $25 million haul.

Sanders’ campaign announced Thursday that more than 1.5 million individuals have contributed to the campaign. The average contribution is $18. The January haul brings the Vermont Senator’s fundraising total since launching his campaign last February to an eye watering $121 million.

To put the total in perspective, former vice president Joe Biden raised just $23 million in the final three months of 2019. At the start of 2020, Pete Buttigieg had only $14.5 in the bank.

“Bernie’s multiracial, multigenerational, people-driven movement for change is fueling 2020’s most aggressive campaign for president,” Sanders’ campaign manager Faiz Shakir said.

“Working class Americans giving $18 at a time are putting our campaign in a strong position to compete in states all over the map.”

Sanders has consistently outraised his Democratic opponents, beating the field with $34 million raised in the final quarter of 2019. No other candidate raised more than $25 million.
