A new poll conducted after the South Carolina primary shows Bernie Sanders retaining his double digit lead in the Super Tuesday state of California.
Despite a second place finish in South Carolina, Sanders’ support of 38 percent in the Emerson College survey is the highest he has polled in the Golden State to date.
Joe Biden came in second place in the poll with 21 percent support, putting him 17 points behind Sanders. Elizabeth Warren and Michael Bloomberg followed with 16 percent and 11 percent support respectively.
The survey was conducted before moderate former mayor Pete Buttigieg dropped out of the race. It showed him with just 7 percent support in California. A Morning Consult survey suggests his voters will split evenly between the four leading candidates.
Sanders won a majority of support from Hispanic and Asian American supporters in the poll, while also leading with white and black voters.
The poll of 545 likely Democratic primary voters in California was conducted between February 29 an March 1.
