Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders leads the field among college students, according to a weekly tracking poll conducted by College Pulse/Chegg.
Of the 1500 students who participated in the poll, 40 percent said they supported Bernie Sanders, giving the Vermont Senator a commanding 19 point lead.
Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren came a very distant second, securing the support of 21 percent of respondents. Entrepreneur Andrew Yang finished third with 11 percent support.
Joe Biden, who is widely considered to be the national front runner, came in fourth, with just 9 percent of respondents saying they supported the former vice president.
Students who responded to the poll were also asked who they would support in a hypothetical matchup between President Trump and a Democratic nominee. 69 percent of respondents said they would vote for a Democrat, while 22 percent said they would vote for Trump.
The poll is conducted on a weekly basis. The numbers released this week are Sanders’ best since the survey began in March 2019, when Sanders was the first choice of 33 percent of respondents.
Sanders has come first in all but one survey released since March. The Vermont Senator was briefly overtaken by Elizabeth Warren for one week in October.
Joe Biden peaked in the poll in March at 23 percent, but the former vice president’s support has steadily dropped as the race has gone on.
