Sanders surges after first Democratic debate

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders’ support has surged in the latest CNN/ORC poll following last week’s debate.

The poll found that the independent Senator from Vermont has the support of 29 per cent of Democrats nation-wide. That’s up five points since just last month.

Meanwhile, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stands at 45 per cent, with Vice President Joe Biden at 18 per cent.

The CNN/ORC poll suggests Democrats were impressed with Sanders’ performance on the debate stage. Just 31 per cent of registered Democrats said they watched all or most of the debate, however.

Sanders’ favorability among viewers of the debate is highly impressive. 84 per cent said they have a favorable view of the presidential hopeful.

The poll was conducted between the 14th and 17th of October and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 per cent.
