Sanders shows support for legalizing marijuana

When pressed on the question of legalizing marijuana for recreational use, Senator Sanders indicated his support.

CNN’s Juan Carlos Lopez asked Sanders whether he would support Nevada’s ballot measure to legalize recreational marijuana. Sanders answered, “I suspect I would vote yes,” which was met with applause from the crowd.

“And I would vote yes because I am seeing in this country too many lives being destroyed for non-violent offenses.”

“We have a criminal justice system that lets CEOs on Wall Street walk away, and yet we are imprisoning or giving jail sentences to young people who are smoking marijuana,” Sanders said.

It was the first time a candidate in this race has openly declared their support for the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes.
