On Friday, Bernie Sanders’ campaign announced that Reverend Jesse Jackson Senior would be joining as special adviser for economic and foreign policy.

In a statement, the campaign said Jackson will work closely with Sanders to enact a federal jobs guarantee, and end endless wars.

Jackson is a prominent civil rights, religious and political figure, playing a pivotal role in movements for peace, civil rights, social justice and equality for more than 50 years.

The former shadow senator for the District of Columbia ran for the Democratic nomination for president in 1988, exceeding expectations, beating out candidates including Al Gore, Joe Biden and Dick Gephardt.

Jackson endorsed Sanders in Michigan last week, speaking alongside the Vermont Senator at a campaign rally before the state’s primary on Tuesday.
