In the tradition of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s fireside chats, Bernie Sanders will on Saturday night host a livestream from his home in Burlington.
Sanders’ campaign announced the livestream just hours before it is scheduled to take place. The stream will begin at 7:30pm ET, and will be live on the Vermont Senator’s campaign website.
In the live stream, Sanders is expected to discuss his vision for the country and take questions from supporters.
The stream is a twist on Sanders’ usual style of addressing large rallies of supporters, sometimes numbering in the tens of thousands. The outbreak of the coronavirus has limited public events for candidates.
Fireside chats were a series of evening radio addresses given by FDR between 1933 and 1944. The chats were initially meant to garner Americans’ support for Roosevelt’s New Deal, but became a source of hope and security.
