Bernie Sanders’ campaign smashed fundraising records during Tuesday night’s Democratic debate in Des Moines, Iowa.

According to Robin Curran, Sanders’ Digital Fundraising Director, 15,000 donations were made in the first hour of the debate, a rate of more than 250 donations per minute.

This made it the single biggest fundraising hour of any debate so far. The donations to Sanders’ campaign accounted for 43% of all money raised on ActBlue.

The debate, hosted by CNN and the Des Moines Register is the last before the Iowa caucuses on Monday, 3 February.

Sanders’ campaign raised a total of $96 million in 2019, with 5 million individual donors. The Vermont Senator’s campaign said the average contribution was $18.
