In another clear sign that Sanders is close to announcing a second run for the presidency, the Vermont Senator asked supporters in an email for donations to protect his progressive agenda.

“If we run another presidential campaign, the political, financial and media elite of this country will stop at nothing to defeat us,” Sanders writes in the email.

“Make a contribution to our campaign to help us fight back and defend our progressive agenda.”

The email comes just days after multiple sources told Yahoo News that Sanders’ announcement of his candidacy was imminent.

Sanders surprised many in the Democratic party in 2016, when he performed unexpectedly well against opponent Hillary Clinton.

In all, Sanders won 23 contests, including key presidential battleground states such as Wisconsin, Michigan, Nevada and New Hampshire. Sanders also raised a total of $180 million throughout his campaign.
